Rama-sita pattabhishekam -My subject for Mysore painting
I just go "ga-ga" at this part of Ramayana.Just cant seem to get enough of this scene. After all the vanavasa and struggles this scene is a signifier of good times.
On a card board i stuck a white drawing sheet .I sketched the basic pencil details. Over that i did the fine brush work using"Burnt sienna".
The next step is doing the gesso work with arabic gum and gold leaf.

I am doing hand mudras and brush work now.A little gyan i picked up about Mysore painting:
- Patronised by the Wodeyar Royal family of Mysore ,the Jagmohan palace houses some wonderful creations.
- Mysore painting is considered to have descended from the Vijayanagar painting style.
- The distinct feature of the paintings are that the faces of dieties are usually rounded and well formed. The gold leaf is extremely sheer and requires loads of delicate handling. The work lasts longer since the leaf is pure gold (not a mixture of silver and gold as in the case of Tanjore painting).
- The embossing is done using chalk powder and gum.
- There is no stone work.
It's been amazing to start traditional painting again .I'd stopped painting for some time. It's good to learn advanced styles from Anand Sir (Mysore & Tanjore paintings).
Will upload the drawings with each post.My next post will contain some of the hand mudras that i am working on.

Towards Light!

This water color conveys everyone's journey towards almighty. Each color depicts one character weakness. The pure yellow is the supreme truth and there his journey ends.
